Spring break on a budget

With the spring semester in full swing, many are starting to plan their week-long break from class. Whether you want a kick-back, relaxing time or to get a little crazy, a great spring break does not need to break the bank. Here are a few cheap and fun things to do.

You have been bogged down with homework and stressed out because of school, so treat yourself to an at home spa day. Spend the day soaking your skin and polishing your nails. Grab some facemask from the beauty store, invite some friends and enjoy a relaxing afternoon at home. You will feel so much better after relaxing and getting rid of some of your stress.

If you do not have enough money to fly, the next best thing to do is take a road trip. There is nothing better than rolling down your windows, turning the music up, and letting the wind take your troubles away. The Dallas area offers many great locations to take little daytrips to. So fill up your gas tank and hit the pavement. You can get lost in the city and check out shops and restaurants you have never experienced before. If you are looking to get away from the city and enjoy the outdoors, try planning a trip to Ray Roberts Lake State Park or any of the local parks. This would be a great time to immerse yourself in nature and detox from screens with a few good friends.

Spend a day going to thrift or vintage shops around town. Since we are broke college students, maybe shopping is not the best idea. However, checking out local thrift shops is a great way to spend the day. You might even find a great new wardrobe piece or a cheap decoration for your apartment.

Spend your class-free week by gaining some extra knowledge. Visiting a museum or art gallery would make for an entertaining day. They are usually inexpensive or free with a college ID, so take advantage and check them out.

If you would rather make art than look at it, a craft project might be just what you need for this week. Lay paint on canvas, learn how to make pottery, or even look up some great Pinterest ideas. Take a vacation from your books and let your creativity run wild.

If all else fails and your bank account is dusty, the best thing you can do is catch up on sleep. We all know that college kids can never get too much of that.
