silentdiscopicThursday, April 21, the Student Union, Fitness and Recreation, Campus Activities Board and Residence Hall Association will co-host a Silent Disco, allowing students to dance the night away with a pair of headphones.

Assistant director of Student Union Programming Lauren Meyer said in an email: “This is the first time we have done a program like this, so it should be different and a lot of fun. It’ll be a giant dance party, and we will have glow necklaces and bracelets to hand out to the first 300 participants.”

During the event, guest DJs will play three different music channels, including Top 40 hits, a rap and hip-hop mix and a Latino playlist, including different genres such as salsa, reggaeton and cumbia. The guest DJs are based in the DFW area and include Jeremy Tipton, known as DJ Questionmark, Kevin Bowman, known as DJ White Boy Boogie, and Devin White, known as DJ Dupree.

Meyer enthused: “We are hoping for a large turnout. We will have 400 pairs of headphones available for participants.”

She added: “We will also be hosting a competition for residence halls – the floor with the highest percentage attendance will win a pizza party.”

Recreational Supervisor from the Fit and Rec center Gabe Cruz and Meyer have been planning to bring a Silent Disco to campus since August 2015, after the University of Texas at Dallas held a successful Silent Disco. Cruz made contact with UTD’s Recreational Sports department and was put in touch with Silent Events, the organization behind Silent Disco and similar events.

The Student Union has additional plans to bring excitement and unique activities to campus. Meyer shared: “We have been working with other institutions, as well as Silent Events…since about that time.”

The Silent Disco will take place from 8-11 p.m. in the Hubbard Hall Southwest Ballroom. Students are encouraged to bring their TWU IDs.
