Houston campus receives first ever career consultant

The Career Connections Center is branching out to the Houston campus after the hiring of Career Consultant Lauren Lilly-Odom.

Lilly-Odom is coming to TWU with extensive experience as the former Employer Events Coordinator at UT-Dallas. She is excited about taking on a position that allows her to work with students individually. Lilly-Odom said, “At UT-Dallas I was doing career events. So it was related, but it wasn’t necessarily that one-on-one exposure with students.”

In her new position, Lilly-Odom shared she will be assisting students of all majors with career advising, resume building, interview skills, job search strategies and more. She will also be hosting and helping with several events throughout the semester, including job fairs, on-campus interviews and employer informational sessions.

“My goals as a career consultant are to make sure that students are fully prepared for the work environment,” said Lilly-Odom. “I want to assist students who may…not know exactly what they can do with their degree. There are lots of different options, so I want to make sure that I am available to open [students’] eyes to other opportunities. That kind of ties into bringing those employers onto campus. Yes, I want to bring the big-name employers on campus, but I also want to bring other employers that maybe students haven’t considered. Once you get that one-on-one connection with an employer, you kind of start to realize what their values are and their culture, and really understand that you can do something that you love through an avenue that you hadn’t thought about

Lilly-Odom’s office is located in 1300 J on the first floor of Campus Management Student Services. Houston-campus students may contact her via phone call at (713) 794-2331 or via email at llilly2@twu.edu.
