After two overtimes on Tuesday night against Lubbock Christian University, a tie rendered it impossible to declare a winner.
It all ended with one point for each team, with junior midfielder Chelsea Martin scoring for the Pioneers. All points were scored within the first 10 minutes of the game. The first goal came from the Lady Chaps on a penalty kick. Just several minutes later, Martin scored with a corner kick in the 10th minute, assisted by senior forward Nancy Chavez. Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Jimenez and Lone Star Conference saves leader, made eight saves during this game.
Pioneers gained a victory over the Texas-Permian Basin Falcons on Friday night with a score of 2-0. Goals were tallied by senior forward/midfielder Gaby Larson and Martin. Larson also picked up an assist and sophomore forward/defender Brittany Jones picked up two. Both goals were scored within a few minutes of each other. Jimenez blocked both of the Falcons’ shots on goal. While the Falcons were only able to block five of the seven Pioneer shots on goal. The combined assists made a team season high and the Pioneers only allowing two shots; marked a season best.
On Sunday night, the tables were turned and the Pioneers saw a 2-0 loss against the Angelo State Belles. Pioneers made a season-low three shots. The Belle’s made 23 shots, with eight on goal, of which Jimenez blocked six. The three shots were made by sophomore midfielder Lauren Neely with one shot and Martin with two. Pioneers have two more games this week against Texas A&M Commerce and Midwestern State, so drop by a game and support your Pioneers.
