TWU soccer plans on making waves at its season opener in Hawaii

Marking the start of their season, the Pioneer soccer team will travel to two opening matches in Honolulu, Hawaii. During this trip, they will face off against Chaminade (Thursday, Aug. 27, 12 p.m. HST / 5 P.M. CST) and Hawaii Pacific (Sunday, Aug. 30, 2 p.m. HST / 7 P.M. CST).

Texas Woman’s soccer team enters the season ranked third in the Lone Star Conference, according to the preseason poll, which is voted on by LSC head coaches, sports information directors and media members, placing TWU third among the conference’s 15 teams. The team’s trip to Hawaii does not directly affect this ranking but will allow the team to gain experience against high-level teams and may impact their national ranking. 

“Heading to Hawaii for our first season game is absolutely unreal,” sophomore midfielder Janelle Lozano said. “I’ve never been more excited for a trip, especially because I get to enjoy it with my girls. Even though the weather and time difference might be a challenge, I know that with every training we have built a team able to withstand any challenge.”

Beyond the excitement of opening the season in Hawaii, the Pioneers are looking to continue the success they found last season.

“Coming off a really strong season last year, I am really looking forward to building off of that and seeing how far we can go this year,” junior forward Monse Bueno said. ” It is exciting to have new teammates that are already exceeding standards, so I’m also really excited to work with them and be a role model for them.”

With the rest of the season ahead, TWU soccer is looking to build on last year’s 16-4-3 record. The Pioneers have set a high standard for themselves and are focused on learning, growing and finding success throughout the season.

“One of the biggest things we have been saying is that we are built to thrive in any condition,” junior forward Gianna Antovoni said. “Whether we are traveling or at home, we are focused and ready for the challenge. We know not every play and moment will be perfect, but we choose to respond with positivity and confidence to grow from any mistake.”
