On Sun, Dec. 4, the Pioneer Gymnastics team will host its annual Intrasquad Holiday Spectacular in the Kitty Magee Arena at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees can look forward to an afternoon of holiday festivities and an opportunity to donate to children and families in need.
For the intrasquad meet, the team will be divided into two sub-teams: the reindeer and the elves. They will compete in vault, bars, beam and floor.
Head Coach Lisa Bowerman shared her excitement about the Holiday Spectacular: “This is one of my favorite events of the year. Obviously it’s exciting as a coach to get our team out there and kind of get a real feel for where we’re at right now in our preparation for the season… It’s a great opportunity to just get them in our competition arena for the first time this year and, of course, an opportunity to see our fans and our university and community.”
This will mark the first Intrasquad Holiday Spectacular in collaboration with the TWU Holiday Gift Program, which assists families in need by providing children with gifts during the holiday season. While the team already contributes to the program through its own donation, Bowerman says, “We thought this would be a great way to open [the Holiday Gift Program] up to our campus and Denton community to try and make sure that all of the children and all the families are taken care of this Christmas.” Attendees may donate new clothes, toys or cash. Donations will benefit children ages newborn to sixteen.
Additionally, those planning to attend can expect to enjoy free milk and cookies, photos with Santa, carolers and plenty of holiday cheer.
