Welcome back, TWU!

Welcome back to TWU in Denton! It’s time to gear up for a brand new semester. This is my favorite time of the year to stock up on new binders, fresh pens and finely tune my new schedule. One of my favorite peers, Hannah Diaz, told me that she creates detailed hourly schedules to prepare for the semester. Diaz said, “This helps me mentally prepare for each day, and it also helps me feel less overwhelmed about my busy schedule.”

And it’s not just the full schedule of classes I’m excited to begin, but all the fun activities that TWU has planned for new and returning students.

For instance, you won’t want to miss the Denton #Downtowning Tour Tuesday Aug 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. At this totally free event, you’ll get to explore Denton via a mural map including the famous Denton Square. Beth Marie’s ice cream, anyone? Plus, you’ll get the opportunity to participate in a ghost tour of Denton’s scariest downtown hauntings. Spooky! Visit the fitness and recreation front desk for more information.

And of course, you can’t miss the annual Org Fest thrown by the Student Organization Council (SOC) Wednesday Aug. 29 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Not only will a ton of cool student organizations be there for you to explore, the fest is carnival-themed. Yes, carnival-themed. Expect a full-blown celebration of making new friends while discovering TWU’s student community. There will be free snow cones, inflatables, and games. And hey, I’ll be there, too, at a table with dragons. If you tell me the magic code word, unicorn, I’ll give you a free piece of candy.

Okay, enough bribing. I think you know as well as I do that our first week back at TWU will rock. Now go organize your binders, and I’ll catch you around campus. Welcome back!
