Texas Woman’s University is now home to a new tuition-free preschool through a partnership with Bezos Academy, expanding access to early childhood education for both student-parents and the greater Denton community.
Officially opening this coming fall semester, Bezos Academy Denton is located on TWU’s Denton campus at 1820 Frame Street and serves children ages three to five. The program includes six classrooms with capacity for up to 120 students and will operate as a full-day, year-round preschool.
Applications for the 2026–27 school year are now open and must be submitted by 5 p.m. PST on April 20 with enrollment determined through a lottery-based selection. Applications submitted after that date will be placed on a waitlist or considered based on availability. Families will be notified of lottery results by 5 p.m. PST on May 5.
According to the published academic calendar, the first day of school is scheduled for Sept. 8, 2026, with the school year ending June 24, 2027. As stated by the university, 20 percent of seats will be reserved for children of TWU students, faculty and staff, while the remaining 80 percent will be open to families in the surrounding Denton area.
TWU says the partnership with Bezos Academy addresses a growing need for affordable childcare, particularly among student-parents. Nationwide, more than two-thirds of student-parents live at or near the poverty level, and many work long hours to balance school, work and childcare.
“This partnership will be a game-changer for families in our community who struggle with childcare costs,” TWU Chancellor Carine Feyten said in a university release.
Bezos Academy, a nonprofit organization, operates tuition-free preschools across the country with a focus on underserved communities. The schools follow a Montessori-inspired model and provide students with meals, supplies and hands-on learning experiences at no cost to families.
Mike George, president of Bezos Academy, said the partnership with TWU reflects a shared goal of expanding access to education.
“By bringing tuition-free, full-day preschools to schools like Texas Woman’s University, we hope to support student-parents while helping young children build a strong foundation for learning,” George said.
In addition to serving families, the preschool will also create learning opportunities for TWU students. Those pursuing degrees in education and child development will have access to hands-on classroom experience.
The program is open to families earning up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level.
