As Texas Woman’s University continues to flourish, so does their growing student body. With over 15,000 students enrolled, according to the TWU fact book, housing has become the next major development to sweep the campus.
In order to accommodate the ever-increasing number of Pioneers coming to Denton, TWU partnered with The Arch Denton and Redpoint Denton to provide students with the opportunity to secure off-campus housing through the university.
“Housing has been getting filled up pretty quickly so, we wanted to have another site for students to be able to live with TWU housing,” said off-campus Residence Director, Julieana Lucio. “We wanted to offer this opportunity for graduate students, juniors, seniors and family housing.”
Students can select between the two apartments, both conveniently located just 3 miles from TWU campus and only 1 mile apart. Each community features an array of amenities, including inviting pools, well-equipped fitness centers, complimentary printing and free Wi-Fi, all while fostering a vibrant TWU atmosphere.
“It allows residents to still be a part of TWU, even though they are not necessarily on the campus,” said Lucio. “They are able to apply and pay using the housing system and everything is pretty much in order for them.”
Senior Jeniffer Avila has lived on campus since her freshman year but recently made the move to The Arch Denton. While the search for a place to live proved daunting in the beginning, the TWU endorsed apartments eased anxiety and provided a sense of relief.
“I really appreciate the apartment housing,” said Avila. “Apartments here are so expensive and I wasn’t sure how I was going to make things work. I felt like I was going to have to work two jobs and longer hours to be able to afford the rent and the bills. It was extremely stressful looking for a place [in Denton] so being offered the off campus housing was really nice because it lowered everything, basically.”
While living off-campus can seem intimidating and disconnected from the typical college dorm experience, Housing and Dining strives to make apartment living something that students are able to enjoy.
“I feel like I have a community. We have group chats between the two apartments and so we are able to share what we are doing and things like that,” said Avila. “It doesn’t feel like you are alone and even though you are in the off campus apartments, it still feels like you are connected with other TWU students.”
