Spotlight on RHA

Texas Woman’s University functions smoothly, day after day, with a multitude of events to ensure that campus life is enjoyable for Pioneers. Working tirelessly behind the scenes to make all of this possible is none other than The Residence Hall Association (RHA).

The RHA is a student-led organization that serves over 2000 campus residents. Its members work to provide quality events, advocate for students’ needs, and represent all members of the residential population.

“We host a variety of events that each seek to fulfill different goals,” says RHA Secretary Mallory Hoots. “Social events, such as galas, provide students the opportunity to dress up and make friends. [As well as] advocacy events as well, such as our clean-up event last semester, and our event called “Twist and Shout!” which allowed students to write cards to the elderly to make them feel loved and appreciated. We provide students with service hours, fun events, and a chance to connect with their peers in a low-stress environment.”

The RHA believes that, as a campus resident, you have the right to be heard and prides itself on amplifying students’ voices. Alongside hosting events, the RHA also functions as an advocacy and governmental body. The organization seeks to bring student concerns to Housing and take action while serving as a liaison between the two. RHA holds Town Hall events to discuss any improvements or ideas concerning residential experiences, needs and concerns.

Students interested in joining the Residence Hall Association can start first by attending an interest session. After attending the session, they will be emailed the RHA application. Additionally, RHA has community intern positions in each residence hall. These teams create programs similar to those of RHA but on a smaller, resident hall scale while continuing to advocate for the needs of the students.

“I have been a part of RHA for 2 years and joined RHA my first year as the National Communications Coordinator In-Training. I moved into the president position unexpectedly and quite quickly,” said  Idalyd Granados, National Communications Coordinator. “I love RHA because it has allowed me to connect with the campus and with students. I enjoy being able to talk to students at events and creating a space for students to have fun. Creating a lasting residential experience for our residents to make sure that TWU feels like their home away from home!”
