Pecan Creek Farm offers strawberry picking to locals

As the spring season takes full force, there are many activities one can do to enjoy the warmer weather. One such activity is making a visit to the Pecan Creek Strawberry Farm located in Pilot Point, Texas. This farm is a roughly 30-minute drive from Denton.

The Pecan Creek Strawberry Farm is owned by Chris and Kylie Demases, who are somewhat new to the area. Both Chris and Kylie have a strong background in farming as they both grew up in farming families. In fact, the Pecan Creek Strawberry Farm is located on Kylie’s grandmother’s land.

The farm opened for picking season on April 13. The farm is open to the public every Wednesdays and Saturdays. It opens at 9 a.m. and is open until the field picks out. The farm also employs a “first come, first serve” rule. The amount of time for the field to be completely picked out varies.

There is no limit on the amount of strawberries that can be picked. The picking will be slower in the beginning of the season but is expected to reach a peak harvest around May 1. The farm encourages individuals interested in picking strawberries to check the Pecan Creek Strawberry Farm Facebook page before coming to pick. They will post a status of the field, if the conditions are right for picking and if the field is picked over for the day or not.

There is no parking or entrance fee to visit the farm. The picking buckets for the strawberries cost $3 a bucket, are reusable and all pickers are required to use Pecan Creek Strawberry Farm buckets. No outside buckets are allowed.

After picking, customers will bring their picked berries in their bucket to the checkout stand to have their buckers weighed. The strawberries are sold by the pound at $5 a pound, the weight of the bucket excluded.

In addition, professional photographers are allowed to take pictures at the farm, which is a popular place for photoshoots. The farm charges $30 per hour and asks that photographers do not bring large props. The farm does have pre-prepared photo opt locations that do not have any extra charges. Moreover, the farm owners request that anyone interested in having a photoshoot email and make an appointment at pecancreekstrawberryfarm@gmail.com.
