New student org suite provides space for students

As the new semester begins, organizations across the Texas Woman’s University Denton campus were eager to share their mission statements and passions with new and returning students. Tables lined the first and second floors of the Student Union all leading to the entrance of the new Student Org Suite.

The Student Org Suite is a new addition to the Union open to organizations for a meeting space or a comfortable study space for students to gather. Oakley ceremoniously cut the ribbon before allowing students in to take a tour of the space, grab some snacks and enter into a raffle for a list of prizes.

Outside of the org suite, students could find table after table with organization leaders to talk with and find a new community to engage in.

Many of these organizations are set out on fostering safe communities and educating others about them. Organizations like TRIBE is a black student support group that strives to uplift black students and inform them about mental health matters.

Similarly, Women of GOLD is an organization dedicated to uplifting black female voices in the TWU community. Outside of the black community, there is also the Asian Student Association. The ASA is dedicated to educating students in and out of the Asian community on the many cultures under the umbrella of Asian identity.

JOLT is a new organization on the scene working to bring Latinx communities together and educate everyone in and out of the community on the importance of civic engagement. JOLT is dedicated to informing students on upcoming elections, voter registration and knowing where and how to vote.

Students looking for assistance in mental health and emotional support should look to Peer E.A.R.S. Peer Emotional Assistance and Support is working to inform students about mental health and provide resources to those who need them.

Students on campus who are starting families or have children should be on the lookout for S.P.A.R.K., Student Parents Also Raising Kids. SPARK works to give assistance to those starting families at TWU who need some extra hands. Students who are looking for volunteer hours and enjoy working with kids, S.P.A.R.K. is looking for volunteers who are willing to help with childcare.

A brand new organization has been put together to lift up students who struggle with public speech. Toastmasters is an organization dedicated to helping students practice their public speaking skills and encouraging them with tips on how to outdo themselves in their next presentation.

There are a few bible study and worship groups here on campus like Pinky Promise and Chi Alpha Campus Ministry. Pinky Promise is a community of women working to provide a sisterhood in Christ through Bible study. Pinky Promise promotes their community through study sessions and coffee socials as well.

Chi Alpha Campus Ministry is a community providing on-campus worship, retreats, service projects and more. Engage in the community through weekly worship sessions, classes and bible studies.
