The holiday season is upon us and with it comes lots of gift shopping, cheerful music, slightly colder temperatures and fun activities for people of all ages in Denton. The following events offer opportunities to take a break from homework and studying to join in community events.
Denton Holiday Lighting Festival
On Fri., Dec. 2, the 28th Annual Denton Holiday Lighting Festival will occur. Located on the Square, this festive evening will be from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Although some food and activities are available for purchase, the event is free. There will be holiday spirit, food, family fun and live local music all evening. All toys brought to the event help Elves Shelves, an outreach ministry of First Baptist Denton that assists families within the community who are not able to provide Christmas gifts for their children. For hot cider lovers, Wassail Weekend will be on Fri., Dec. 2 from 5:30-8 p.m. during the Holiday Lighting Festival and on Sat., Dec. 3 from 1-4:30 p.m. where live music entertains Dentonites while shopping and Wassail-tasting. A fun way to enjoy holiday decorations and Christmas lights, the Reindeer Romp is one of the few local race held during this season. The Reindeer Romp will be at South Lakes Park on Fri., Dec. 9. The race consists of a 4.2 mile run or a 2.5 mile walk, according to the participant’s choice and comfort level. Check-in begins at 6:30 p.m. and the race starts at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $30 per person on race-day.
