Career fair provides opportunity for connection, exploration

Career and Internship Fair

Most students say they plan to get jobs after graduation, but few know how to take steps to reach that goal. Twu is providing students with the chance to get a head start on their futures. The university will host a free career and internship fair Oct. 4 in Hubbard Hall.

Opportunities at fair

“For students who are seeking spring or summer internships or those who are graduating in December or May, now is the time to begin job searching,” Career Connections Director Liza Garza said. She noted that employers “begin searching for interns and employees a semester in advance,” so students should begin making connections as early as possible. During the fair, some employers will even review resumes and make decisions on who they will interview, Garza said.

The event offers the chance to learn about career options and how best to prepare for the future. “Students who aren’t yet ready to begin an internship or job can benefit from exploring options and learning what they can do now to be a top candidate when the time comes,” Garza stated.

Free professional headshots and more

It is also an opportunity learn more about future employers. The fair allows students to find out about “company culture and determining your potential ‘fit’ at an organization,” according to Garza. As an added benefit, students will be able to get free professional headshots taken during the event.

Garza suggested that students prepare for the fair by doing some research and choosing appropriate clothing. She urged them to come dressed to impress future employers. Students can log in to their TWU Connect accounts to view the entire list of employers who will be attending.
