TWU study spot reviews

With welcome week over, the semester is starting to get serious. No more syllabus days or icebreakers, now professors are getting into the real material, and students are realizing that passing their classes means hitting the books. If you’re starting to feel the pressure, then finding the right study spot can make all the difference. Luckily, TWU is home to tons of great ones that can help motivate you. Here’s a roundup of some of my personal favorites on campus!

Hubbard Hall

Craving a sweet treat, have some extra time to study, or maybe just searching for a place to chill before your next class? Look no further than the silent room on the second floor of Hubbard Hall! Located right across from Bunsen Tea Lab, the silent room is a no-talking zone and a quiet reprieve from the noisy rush of college life. This room is perfect for scrolling on your phone, taking a quick power nap in what I have endearingly named ‘the egg,’ or private individual study. This room gets busy as the day goes on and tends to be the fullest in the early afternoon. I suggest coming either early in the morning or in the late afternoon.

Pioneer Hall

Do you enjoy the smell of chlorine? If not, then skip this recommendation. But if you’re a weirdo, like me, and love the smell of chlorine, then do I have a study spot for you! On the second floor of Pioneer Hall is a circular area filled with comfortable chairs and tables, complete with a wonderful view overlooking Bell Avenue. This is the perfect area for people watching, group studying, and enjoying the smell of chlorine from the pool located on the first floor. It’s relatively empty most of the time, which means you’re almost always guaranteed to find a place to sit and crack open your textbook. However, it is busiest during the morning, and I would recommend going in the afternoon.

Outdoor study spots

As the weather cools down, it becomes tempting to study outside. Luckily, TWU has a plethora of outdoor study spots. In between the Anne Stuart Science Complex (ASSC) and the Music Building is a circle of benches surrounded by beautiful greenery. The amphitheater outside the ASSC is also surrounded by lush vegetation and is typically pretty quiet. These spots are better suited for going over required readings or textbooks. I wouldn’t recommend trying to do computer work in these areas, as the wifi can be spotty and difficult to connect to. Then, of course, there are the classic tables outside the library and next to the fountain that make a comfortable environment, with much better wifi connection, for group studying and computer work.

Library

Next time you visit the library, instead of booking a study room or heading to the third floor, veer a little to the left and try working in the children’s section. With plenty of natural light and fun decor, the tedious task of studying can be done with a bit more whimsy. This section boasts plenty of seating and comfortable bean bags, which makes it a great place for individual or group study. This area can get busy during the weekdays, but during the weekend it is typically empty.

Brackenridge

If a private area with a view is what you’ve been searching for, then head on over to Brackenridge. Located on the third floor are comfortable chairs with privacy shades and small tables that can be moved around as needed. This area overlooks gorgeous greenery and the aesthetic view would go great with a coffee from The Hoot on the second floor. The farther down the row of chairs you go, the more intimate the space feels. As the building has just reopened, I can’t rate the busyness of this area; however, I’m sure that the foot traffic will pick up soon.
