Historic basketball season comes to a close

On Monday, March 17, 2026, the Texas Woman’s University basketball team lost in an exciting one-point game against Colorado Mesa at Kitty Magee Arena. The No. 3 ranked Mavericks beat the No. 1 ranked Pioneers, 65-64, in the South Central Regional championships, marking the end of the Pioneers’ season.

Throughout the season, TWU had several record-breaking victories and team accomplishments. They ended their season with a 31-2 overall record, a 13-0 road record. They swept the Lone Star Conference and set a program record of 30 straight wins.

Individually, the team also stood out, some of their achievements include: Senior Gabby Elliot being named the 2026 LSC Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and LSC Tournament MVP; Coach Beth Jillson earned LSC Coach of the Year for the fourth year in a row; Seniors Averee Kleinhans and Jada Celsur earned spots on the South Central Regional All-Tournament Team; Celsur also joins Elliott and Kleinhans in the 1,000 Career points club.

Sadly, despite all of these achievements, the 2025-2026 TWU basketball team’s season comes to an end. The program will take a well-deserved break before shifting their focus to next year’s season, where they will aim to achieve the same level of success and hopefully exceed it.
