On Sep 7, Carson Creek Ranch is hosting a three-day independent music festival in Austin, Texas for the first time. The Waterloo Music Festival is a music, food, and camping event that seeks to set itself apart in the infamous Austin concert scene.
Attendees will camp out on the 58-acre ranch for a “curated, artist-driven and niche experience,” according to Cheyenne Doerr of Giant Noise Public Relations. The festival will feature artists that span the jam-music genre, including the jazz-inspired group The Motet, the instrumental rock-fusion quartet TAUK and the electronic-rock twosome BoomBox. The String Cheese Incident will headline and perform each night of the festival, which will also feature the first-ever Texas performance of the Grateful Dead tribute band, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead.
Produced by the well-known local promoters Heard Presents, Havin’ A Ball Productions and Unknown Entertainment, Waterloo’s creators aim to meet the recent demand for jam-music events in the Austin area.
“With Waterloo, we set out to honor and celebrate the heritage and spirit of Austin with world-class music inspired by our roots and a weekend-long outdoor experience that will make our city proud,” Briggs Mitchell, co-founder of Waterloo Music Festival, said. “We couldn’t think of a better place to call home than on the banks of the Colorado River, and to us, nothing brings together the creativity and soul of Austin more than three nights of The String Cheese Incident accompanied by an eclectic mix of artists across the jam music spectrum.”
A special pass sale for students begins Friday, Aug 31 and will run through Sep 5. Discounted student passes start at $49 for single-day passes and $135 for three-day passes. Tickets and more information are available here.
