According to a TWU press release, for seven years in a row, TWU has been credited as a Military Friendly school, which means that the university is welcoming to its military and veteran students and offers services to help make these students feel at home on campus. The accolades have placed TWU highly on the list of over 1,400 universities deemed Military Friendly.
To receive such a designation, universities must offer academic credibility, campus support for military and veteran students, admissions and orientation processes, graduation and retention rates, the percentage of military and veteran students on campus, career outcomes for these students, government approvals, assistance for tuition, flexibility and accommodation and policies for military spouses, according to the Military Friendly organization.
According to a TWU press release, the university offers the Veteran Students’ Center, which allows military and veteran students to meet for support or to study. Additionally, TWU has an admissions process meant for military and veteran applicants.
The university is celebrating Veterans Day this week by raising American flags across campus to honor military and veteran students’ service, by participating in the Veterans Day on the Square event, by hosting a Veterans Coffee Stop on Thursday in the Veteran Students’ Center from 7:30-9 a.m. and by offering Vet Zone training on Friday in room 113 of the Student Union from 1-3 p.m.
Additionally, a free lunch for military and veteran students, staff and faculty was held on Tuesday in the Student Union Underground and was hosted by TWU Campus Alliance for Resource Education.
