As basketball season kicks off, the Pioneers will have a seasoned squad of 11 returning veterans. Along with the veterans, five new players will join the Pioneers on the court.

In an interview with The Lasso, head coach Beth Jillson shared her thoughts on this year’s team and the upcoming season: “It has been exciting to be out on the court, and we are excited about the opportunity to actually play. I like our chemistry and the way our veterans work with our new players.”

Jillson added: “The key for us is our depth, staying healthy and having options with players and lineups. I like the energy and the experience that we are bringing back.”

The Pioneers have three returning All-Conference players; junior post Erin Maxwell, junior point guard Kenesha Saygo and junior forward Emily Spector. Two returning guards, junior Deja Pointer and sophomore Morgan Easley are great all-round players to add to TWU’s depth.

This past weekend the Pioneers traveled to Midwestern State University where they played in the Ashbrook Classic. The Pioneers opened their season with a 77-72 win over St. Mary’s and a 56-41 win over Rogers State, giving them a 2-0 record start.

On Nov. 21 and 22 TWU will host the 2015 Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premier. On the 21 the Pioneers will face Colorado Christian and Colorado-State Pueblo on Sunday Nov. 22.
