Valentine’s Day Reminds us to Showcase our Love

Jordan KieferI love Valentine’s Day. Every year, I get cards, candy and other various gifts from family and friends. It makes me feel appreciated and loved. My mom always puts these cute little decorations around the house and gives my sisters and I a little special gift. (And something special for my dad, too, of course). It was never a holiday where my family went over the top, just a day for us to do things differently.

I do understand where some people come from when they argue that if you love someone, you don’t need one special day to showcase that love. While I agree that you should tell the special people in your life that you love them as much as you can, Valentine’s Day is important. It’s important to show people how much you love them not because you have to, but because you want to. I’ve never seen this particular holiday as something that I had to go over the top for, just a day that I could do a little something extra. I think it’s cute that there’s a special holiday dedicated to love.

As someone who loves giving gifts to people and making others happy, I love any holiday that allows me the ability to express my affection. However, I do find it funny that Valentine’s Day is also known as Single’s Appreciation Day since I’ve fallen into that category more than I care to admit.
