TWU supports veterans

TWU offers many different resources for different populations around campus, including veterans and students currently in the military. This year marks the ninth consecutive year that TWU has been named a “Military Friendly School” along with “Military Times’ Best Colleges for 2018.”

Not only does TWU help support military and ex-military students, but they also reach out to local groups to support veterans. TWU has a $3.5 million partnership with the Dallas Veterans Affairs to make sure veterans continue to have the best care possible. TWU student nurses are also prepared to the best of their ability for a position in veteran care, if desired. Injured veterans have an opportunity to get back on the court through the Injured Veterans Entering Sports Training program.

As of this year, TWU “is serving almost 300 student veterans and more than 400 dependents of veterans,” according to the TWU veterans’ website. “In addition, TWU employs about 70 faculty and staff members who are veterans.”

Each year, there are specific holidays that TWU celebrates. Veterans Day is one that is not skipped over. “Every Veterans Day, TWU recognizes the contributions and sacrifices of our veterans on campus and at the Denton Square,” according to the website.

Nov. 11, TWU’s Campus Alliance for Resource Education (CARE) will partner with UNT student veteran services and the Denton County Veterans Service Office to support the veterans. The Veterans Day Program will be hosted on the square at the Old Courthouse in downtown Denton. This annual event is held to support those who served and is open to the entire community. This event will help those in the community recognize those who have served.
