TWU Pioneer basketball team sits 5-5 in LSC play

After wrapping up another weekend of basketball, the Pioneers are currently sitting at .500 with a 5-5 Lone Star Conference record.

Falling to the Midwestern State Mustangs 66-65 in the final seconds of the fourth quarter on Jan. 19, TWU went on to overcome Cameron University on Jan. 21 with a 77-63 lead.

 

Following tip off with the Mustangs, TWU Senior guard Kenesha Saygo led the Pioneers in minutes played with 29 and points scored with 13.  While TWU could not answer to MSU’s final quarter rallies, they did out-rebound the Mustangs throughout the game with 42 rebounds to MSU’s 29.

 

Cameron University
Redeeming themselves with a 77-63 win over Cameron University, the Pioneers evened their LSC record back out 5-5.  According to TWUAthletics.com, Junior forward Grace Mitchell recorded her third double-double statistic scoring 18 points and recording 12 rebounds during the 40-minute play.

 

Upcoming LSC games

You can catch the Pioneers back in action tomorrow, Thurs. 26, in the Kitty Magee Arena as they begin the second round of LSC competition with a tip off against Texas A&M Kingsville at 7 p.m. When the Pioneers last faced the Javelinas, they lost 67-55.

 

On Sat., Jan. 28, the Pioneers will host Angelo State University at 2 p.m. In their latest game with the Belles, the Pioneers fell in a steep margin of 74-53.
