TWU brings The Body Project to Denton campus

TWU is hosting the first Body Project event Oct. 20 and 27 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lowry Woods TV lounge.

The Body Project promotes positive female body image and self-appreciation. In the past, TWU has hosted The TWU Body Project in the spring. Due to its popularity TWU has brought the official project here for the fall. TWU’s Counseling Center, Fitness and Recreation and Student Health Services collaborated to host The Body Project.

Health Educator, Amy Allison said: “The initiative is to empower people to appreciate their own body and getting away from negative body image,  It’s a really good event, it makes you think about and challenge things you were taught about your body.”

Participants in The Body Project attend both sessions for maximum effect. The first session focused on providing information about and discussing social perceptions and the “ideal” body image. The second session will focus on how participants can use the information to change societal views and help others.

Allison said: “This whole program is self-affirming, and built for loving yourself for who you are.”

She added: “The Program is a positive empowering experience for participants to grow in their own personal perceptions of body image. It’s a really good program. I think students who participate will get a lot out of it.”
