Trump’s First 100 Days Update

With the end of President Trump’s first 100 days in office on Sat., April 29, it is time to reflect back on his presidency these past three months.

As the first president with no military, political or government experience, President Trump’s journey was likened to climbing “Mount Everest as it’s as steep as they come and ice-covered, and he didn’t bring very many knowledgeable Sherpas with him” by director of presidential studies at the University of Virginia Barbara Petty.

The first 100 days have been turbulent to say the least. Many key positions in the administration have yet to be filled, there have been legislative starts and stops, the national security adviser had the shortest tenure in history, immigration orders have been held up in court, a health care overhaul failed, and there has been hectic management in the White House. As a result, some experts are calling his presidency an entry-level one.

Another troubling fact is that since FDR, presidents have “faced five more times more foreign policy or military crises than economic ones in their first year” according to NPR. While former President Barack Obama didn’t have lengthy political experience, President Trump has virtually no political experience, but rather a lifetime career in business.

President Trump has revealed his surprise in the difficulty of the job by saying: “Nobody knew health care could be so complicated” after the attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act failed. He conceded that he had a lot to learn and that the experience was an interesting one.

After a poll conducted by the NBC News/Wall Street Journal revealed that nearly two-thirds of Americans give him poor or middle marks for the first 100 days of his presidency, it is clear that President Trump has a difficult and long road ahead of him for the next four years.
