TWU faculty, students and community members will represent all three campuses to engage and share their stories and experiences. Among the TWU student speakers is Board of Regents Student Regent Neftali Gomez.

There will be a mixture of performances and serious talks from a variety of ages, with topics ranging from the myth of stability and authentic caring to feminism and leadership.

The conference will be held in the Redbud Theater Complex on March 4, with two follow-up sessions planned for April 12 at the Houston campus and April 13 at the Dallas campus.

In an interview with The Lasso, Chief of Staff and TEDxTWU Curator Christopher Johnson shared some background information about how TEDxTWU came in the works: “I have been a TED junky for five years, and I was reading an article that said that around 27 percent of TED talks are given by women. I thought we needed to have a local TEDx event here since we have so many women that can add to the conversation.”

Johnson added: “There are so many gems at TWU with so many ideas that need to be spread in a non-academic way, and we think this is a good way to get those stories out there.”

Attendance in the Redbud Theater on the Denton campus is limited to 100 people; however, there will also be 50 first-come, first-serve seats in the adjacent green room. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. Students will also have the option to hang out in the Fit and Rec or the Ann Stuart Science Complex lobby for live-stream parties that will provide a relaxed and conversational come-and-go atmosphere.

Tickets for the event are now on sale for TWU faculty and staff, students and the community.
