While every college student is dealing with the stress of classes and assignments, some college students are also struggling to put food on the table.
From Nov. 9 to 18 the Student Union, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology and Social Work, will be holding the third Stock The Fridge food drive.
Contributions will go to TWU’s Food Pantry, a project of SASW that works to meet the immediate needs of students to afford food.
Donations such as canned goods, dry foods, baby necessities and many other things are welcome. Bins will be set up on the second floor of the Student Union by the piano, by the elevators on the second floor of ACT and on the first floor of MCL.
In an interview with The Lasso, Supervisor of Student Union Operations, Jasmine Wiley shared why its important for faculty and staff to donate, “Our goal and our job is to serve the students. This is a big way for us to give back to students who are on a fixed income or those who are struggling to make ends meet and afford food.”
Wiley stated that its a great way for students to help their campus and also a way to gain knowledge and recognize where the food pantry is. The pantry is located in suite 200 in the Old Main Building and is available for students who do not have enough money to afford food or need temporary assistance to get by, and students remain anonymous.
“There was a huge response from faculty and staff who donated last year and we’ve kept the goal amount of 1,200 from last year and hoping we get [the same] huge response that we did,” Wiley added.
