Stress less Series begins

On Tuesday Sept. 15, Student Health Services and the Counseling Center hosted a workshop in its Stress Less Series. The event was held on the Denton campus, and the focus was “Stress And Your Wellness Wheel.”

In an email, Health Educator Amy Allison said of the series: “The Stress Less Series focuses on addressing topics that impact TWU students and providing information and tips on how to manage that stress successfully.”

She added: “We have three events scheduled for this semester with one each for September, October and November. We do these events in person on the Denton and Dallas campus and live stream to Houston during the event. We also plan to do another series in the spring semester.”

Allison said of student stress: “I think one of the biggest sources of stress for students is not knowing how to manage that stress in a healthy way, which often time causes more stress [as well as] trying to find balance and time to achieve all of their responsibilities, both academically and personally.”

Allison suggested that students can lower their levels of stress by “address[ing] their stressors.” She elaborated: “Once you identify your stressors, you can work on managing your response to those stressors. Our goal with the Stress Less Series is to help student identify their individual stressors and provide information and tips on how to handle that stress.”

Students who missed the Sept. 15 event can still attend events at later dates. On the Denton campus, the series will continue with “Finding Your Life Balance” on Oct. 13 and “Anxiety” on Nov. 17, held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Student Union, room 113. On the Dallas campus and live streamed to the Houston campus, the series will feature “Time Management” on Oct. 12-13 and “Imagery” on Nov. 16-17, held from noon to 1 p.m.
