On Thursday, April 14, Friday, April 15, and Saturday, April 16, student choreographers and dancers from the Department of Dance will be performing their spring Dance UpClose Concert in the Dance Studio Theatre.

The performances on Friday and Saturday will begin at 7 p.m., while the Thursday performance will have an earlier start at 4 p.m. Tickets for the concert can be reserved online until Wednesday, April 1D3. Admission is $6 for the general public and $4 for TWU faculty, staff and students, as well as senior citizens.

Associate Professor of Dance and Chair of the Dance Practices Committee Sarah Gamblin shared, “It is a wonderful variety of original dance ideas from students, but in an up-close and intimate setting. This setting highlights what our students can do, but also what they are ‘saying’ through dance.”

The TWU community can expect two works that are derived from Hip-Hop styles by Masters of Fine Arts student Jenna Chang, which features a conceptual twist and another performance by Post-Baccalaureate student Daunte Borner, which adds a narrative.

Gamblin added, “I just think it’s great that we are able to promote the work of TWU students. Our department values individual creativity and artistic voice.”

The Spring 2016 Dance UpClose concert is a culture card event, which encourages other students who are enrolled in other School of the Arts programs to attend events outside of their department. Gamblin added, “This way our SOA students gain a sense of community and unity within the SOA, and aren’t just locked into their own departments.”
