If you’re one of the hundreds of college kids who are too broke to go to the beach and plan to bum around Denton next week, here are a few ideas to get you out of your apartment and away from Netflix.

Pioneer Softball Game: On Sunday March 12 from 1-6 p.m., the TWU Pioneer softball team will play in a double header against Midwestern State University. Go cheer on the Pioneers at Pioneer Field. Price is $3 for seniors and non-TWU students, $5 for adults, and free for children, TWU staff, faculty and students.

Stage Kiss: Catch a performance of the UNT Department of Dance and Theatre’s production of “Stage Kiss” on March 12 at 2 p.m. Written by Sarah Ruhl, this play follows two actors with a history that are both cast as the romantic leads in a melodrama. Watch as UNT shares the story of what happens when an on-stage romance and real-life romance collide. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7.50 for seniors, UNT students, faculty and staff.

TWU Gymnastics Meet: Come out to Kitty Magee Arena to support the TWU Gymnastics team as they compete against Louisiana State University, New Hampshire and Oregon State on March 12 at 6 p.m.

Texas Storytelling Festival: Join the Tejas Storytelling Association at the Denton Civic Center from March 10 – 13 for the 31st Annual Texas Storytelling Festival. Storytellers have traveled across the nation to share stories of family, ghost, personal experiences and even some tall tales from around the world. Some events are free to the public while single concert tickets are $10 at the door. To register for this event, go to www.tejasstorytelling.com

Beginner’s Knitting Class: The Emily Fowler Library will be offering a two-hour knitting class for beginners on March 17 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The cost and supplies are free, but the space is limited, so please register at www.cityofdenton.com.

Shamrock Comedy Showcase: Join J&J’s Pizza and Language of Laughter for a night of fun and comedy on March 18 at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Enjoy a lineup of seven comedians, including Alvin Newsom, in the basement of J&J’s Pizza at 118 W. Oak Street. Tickets are $6.99 and can be purchased online at www.lolforacause.com. All proceeds directly benefit local education.

Great American Clean Up: Spend a morning volunteering with Denton community members on March 19 from 9-11 a.m. Keep Denton Beautiful is hosting this year’s annual community-wide litter cleanup project to help beautify our city. Following the cleanup, there will be a Volunteer Appreciation Party held at the Denton Civic Center with free lunch, live music and bounce houses.
