Consecutive Soccer Shutouts

            The Pioneers’ most recent games have earned them points towards their standing in the Lone Star Conference. After playing at home , Oct. 3, the Pioneers made a quick turnaround to play Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls Friday, Oct. 5. Their Friday night game earned them a point in their LSC standing, ending in a scoreless tie with the Mustangs.

            They got a week-long breather before returning to the field in Odessa to take on UT Permian Basin. Their 3-0 win Friday, Oct. 12 gave them confidence going into their game Sunday against Angelo State. A pair of goals from sophomore Haley Ward led the Pioneers to a 2-0 win in San Angelo on Sunday night.

            The Pioneers currently have 14 points in the Lone Star Conference, putting them in third place. Their next game against Eastern New Mexico will be at the Pioneer Soccer Park at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night.

 

Volleyball Ups, Downs and Recognitions

            Volleyball has come out on top, as well as with some losses in their last few matches. On Friday, Oct. 5, the Pioneers took on the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds and won all three sets. At their Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Game the following evening, the girls played Lone Star Conference rival West Texas A&M and lost to the Lady Buffs 2-3 after 5 close sets.

            In their next match in Lawton, Oklahoma, the Pioneers took on Cameron University on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The Pioneers won three of their four sets against the Aggies, putting them in a four-way tie for fifth place in the Lone Star Conference. Texas Woman’s junior kinesiology major Bailey French was chosen as the LSC Defensive Player of the Week after her performance at Tuesday night’s game.

            Later in the week, the girls took on the Angelo State Belles at home Friday, Oct. 12. They outlasted the Belles winning three out of five sets. They took on Tarleton State the next day but lost a close match to the TexAnns, winning only two of their five sets. The Pioneers will be at home again on Tuesday, Oct. 16 to face Texas A&M – Commerce at 6 p.m. in the Lone Star Conference competition.
