Pioneers drop three games heading into Lone Star Conference play

On Fri., Sept. 23, Pioneers faced West Texas A&M Lady Buffs in the Lone Star Conference opener.

West Texas’ Khadira Debesette scored the first goal of the game in the 16th minute. In the 27th minute, she scored again — giving the Lady Buffs a two-point lead over the Pioneers.

In the final two minutes, Pioneer midfielder Chelsea Martin reduced the lead to only one point. But the Pioneers were not able to tie the game and lost with a score of 2 – 1.

After the TWU Soccer Field was made unplayable by inclement weather, Pioneers’ second game of the weekend versus East New Mexico University was moved to Lion’s Field on the campus of Texas A & M Commerce.

In the first 10 minutes of the game, Pioneers outpaced ENMU Greyhounds in attempted shots five versus two, though none of these shots connected to the net. Greyhound Tori Hendrickson scored the first goal in the 28th minute.

Greyhound Mirka Zamarripa scored the second goal of the game in the first ten minutes of the second half.

Pioneers attempted a season high of 27 shots but were unable to break the shutout, ending the game with a 2 – 0 loss.

Wed., Sept. 28, Pioneers will host Texas A&M-Commerce for Staff and Faculty Appreciation Night at TWU Soccer Field.
