Pick your pumpkin patch

            It is finally the time to whip out a camera and pick out a pumpkin, but first, a quick run-down on some of the best pumpkin patches around. Prioritize before reading, because each pumpkin patch has its own perks.

The Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch – Flower Mound, TX

            The first pumpkin patch is in Flower Mound, which is about a 30-minute drive from the Denton campus. Open Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, the pumpkin patch is open every day from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Parking on weekdays is $5, but $10 on weekends. Activities are free with optional purchases. With pumpkins, cornstalks, hay bales, baked goods and refreshments, the patch also supports Christian Community Action (CCA) and encourages donations to the CCA’s food pantry.

Tom Thumb Pumpkin Patch – Dallas Arboretum

            The beloved Dallas Arboretum hosts the Tom Thumb Pumpkin Patch in addition to a Pumpkin Village, hay bale maze and scavenger hunts. Their Autumn in the Arboretum activities can be found on their website and enjoyed for the price of general admission tickets that are good from the date purchased until Dec. 31.

Yesterland Farm – Canton, TX

            For a day trip and more of an amusement park experience, Yesterland in Canton, TX is a decent hour and a half drive from the Denton campus. With Farm Attractions, “Amazement Park” rides and Fright Farm activities beginning at dark, the Fall Festival is open weekends from Sept. 29 through Nov. 11. Different passes are different prices, which can be found online. The Farm is open Fridays in October, as well as Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. -10 p.m.

Aubrey Pumpkin Patch – Aubrey, TX

            Aubrey’s third annual Pumpkin Patch and Fall Festival opened on Sept. 29 and will be open through Nov. 4 every day, except Mondays. Denton campus students can get there in a short 15 – 20-minute drive. Catch a ride on the carrel train, feed the farm animals, catch some photo opportunities, or run through the hay maze. There are also other activities and concessions on the farm for an $8 admission for ages two and up.
