Savannah’s college career began in high school, where she earned 35 hours of college credit and a scholarship from her school. This allowed her to enter Collin County Community College as a second-year student funded by that scholarship. After taking a year off school to earn money for a University, Peer applied for the Terry Foundation Scholarship which earned her a full ride to TWU.

While at TWU she worked as a copy editor for The Lasso before taking on her current job working as a digital marketing manager for Good Life Family magazine.

Peer explains her future plans: “Since I’ve had this graduation set up for December, I’ve been focusing on getting a career type job, or if I want to stay with the magazine. All the companies I have applied for and interviewed for so far have been marketing companies, so I’ll probably go into something along those lines.”

Inspiration to do well at college and in life came from Peer’s father, who taught her to constantly work hard and strive to reach new goals. While she’s been at TWU, head of the Terry Scholar Foundation Dianna Gomez and the Terry scholar organization have both been supportive factors for Peer.

Peer states: “It’s one of those scholarships that is really like family. They’re always there for you. I would definitely not be where I am today without them.”

Assistant professor Dr. Ashley Bender and Associate Professor Dr. Vivian Casper from the English Speech and Foreign Language department recommended Peer for this recognition. Both were professors whose classes Peer has taken and women she admirers. Peer stated their classes were some of the most challenging yet most academically rich classes she has taken.

Peer states: “I was really surprised when [Dr. Bender] sent me an email and then talked about how Dr. Casper also recommended me. I’ve had Dr. Bender and Dr. Casper multiple times throughout my time at TWU, so it was meaningful to be nominated by them.”

In an email, Dr. Bender and Dr. Casper explain: “Savannah exemplifies what we want our students to accomplish — to love learning, to accept challenges, to achieve at a high level with enthusiasm, to make their learning a significant part of their lives henceforth. She is a superb example to others in these regards.”
