Robledo has further plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Bilingual Education while working as an elementary teacher. Robledo recognizes the major impact of her bilingual elementary teachers and wants to give back to the community that helped her.

Having immigrated from Mexico during the third grade, Robledo can speak fluent Spanish and English. Due to closed doors from her legal status, Robledo was unsure what her future would entail and was questioning if her dream of attending college would be an option. Through hard work and dedication, Robledo pursued her dream of attending college and is proud to be the first member of her family to attend and graduate from college.

Robledo’s passion for education does not end with earning her Bachelor’s degree in Bilingual Education or her leadership roles on campus but extends with her position as Ms. Irving Latina. As Ms. Irving Latina, Robledo’s platform is education and she has reached out to other Latinos who wish to pursue higher education through special appearances at events, on radio and television.

Robledo shared: “Being part of a Latina organization has not only helped me grow as a person but also as a professional. It has motivated me to use my knowledge and experiences as an educator to inform our Latin community about education and the big impact Latinos have in our society today.”

Robledo is a member of TWU’s Bilingual Education Student Organization and has served as a representative and leader at conferences such as the Texas Association for Bilingual Education Leadership Institute. She is also a member of the Association of Texas Professional Educators. Through these organizations and conferences, Robledo feels very prepared professionally.

Assistant Professor of the Teacher Education program Dr. Mary Stewart promoted Robledo as a perfect example of a “bilingual, bilateral and bicultural leader at TWU through the Bilingual Education Student Organization.”

We are extremely proud of Gabriela and all her accomplishments. She is smart, kind, humble and beautiful. I have seen her grow as a public figure and she is a more than a model, A Role Model. I am proud to be her Director and Pageant Coach in this amazing journey. Being a public figure is a full time commitment and not an easy job at times. Although she has school, work and family she has been able to continue to fulfill her commitment as a role model in the community as Miss Irving Texas Latina. I am proud to have Gabriela in our lives and a role model for other Latinas that may also take this amazing journey.
