Octoberfest-2Walnut off the Square holds second Oktoberfest

Sierra Taylor, Managing Editor

As the calendar turns to October and we prepare for fall, Denton prepares for its own Oktoberfest.

The second Oktoberfest Off Walnut will be hosted by Walnut Off the Square on Friday, Oct. 2 from 5-11 p.m. with free entry.

Fun

The event will have a few ceremonious events like tapping of the wooden keg to kick off the festival.

Back by popular demand is Nagel Schlagen, which is a game in which contestants attempt to hammer a nail into a log with as few hits as possible.

A costume contest will be held for adult and children dressed in their best lederhosen.

Another contest that will be held is Stein Hoisting, which requires competitors to hold a one-liter stein filled with beer, with a straight arm, for as long as possible without spilling your drink or bending your arm.

Even face painters will be set-up to turn your face into a work of art. The event will offer live performances from Joe Tucker, Buffalo Ruckus, and High School Caesar.

Food

The festival will have best brats and krauts Denton has to offer. Vendors like Hypnotic Donuts, Dusty’s Bar and Grill, and many others will have everything from BBQ to Waffles for sale.

Drinks

What would an Oktoberfest be without beer? A wide variety of beer will be available at their beer and wine tents for attendees aged 21 and up.

For designated drivers, those under 21 and those who do not wish to drink, the festival will have root beer floats and additional refreshments.

“[Walnut Off the Square] held one last year and we had such great response from the community we decided to do it again,” said Scott Campbell, who sits on the Walnut Off the Square board.
