New parking garage to open soon

The Denton campus’ new parking garage, the Oakland Complex, is coming to the final stages of construction. Prices of parking passes have been set, and the Department of Public Safety and Human Resources have already started their transition into the building.

Nov. 1, parking garage decals go on sale at the DPS office, which is now located on the first floor of the Oakland Complex. To purchase a parking permit for the garage, one must have their vehicle license plate number, make, model and color of the car, TWU ID and the current TWU parking decal, if applicable. If a student brings in their current parking pass, credit will go towards the cost of the parking garage permit. The parking passes for the Oakland Complex will not be available online, so students must go to the DPS office.

Starting Nov. 5, the parking garage doors will be open to students who have the correct decal to park in the complex. There will be staff members at each entrance checking to make sure every vehicle entering the garage has the permit needed. Students who do not have a permit will not be allowed into the garage. The main entry to the garage is at the South side of the building off of Oakland Street. There is a second entrance/exit off of Austin Street.

There are two types of parking permits students can purchase for the Oakland Complex. The first option is the general parking permit. Students who have this parking permit are allowed to park anywhere starting at the second floor and up. The general parking permit cost is $350 per year, prorated at $290 for the 2018-19 year.

The second parking permit is the reserved parking on the first floor. Students can purchase this permit if they want to have a guaranteed parking spot each time they enter the complex. Reserved parking is on the first floor only. The cost for the reserved parking permit is $525 per year, prorated at $425 for the 2018-19 year.

For more information about parking, students can visit the DPS office or visit the DPS website at twu.edu/parking.
