National Society of Leadership and Success Hosts Broadcasts by Famous and Sought-After Speakers

TWU’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success will host a speaker broadcast featuring actor, author and comedian John Leguizamo on Nov. 10 in CFO room 204 from 6-7 p.m. All students are welcome to attend and enjoy light refreshments after listening to the broadcast and engaging in a discussion about it.

The NSLS frequently hosts live broadcasts that are transmitted to campus groups where students and members of the NSLS gather to hear speeches from influential leaders such as Arianna Huffington, Goldie Hawn and Al Roker. President of TWU’s chapter of the NSLS and Executive Master of Business Administration graduate student Ashley Harrison compared the atmosphere of the event to getting coffee with a friend: “It’s an open space where you can discuss the lecture and get to know other people. All students are welcome, especially grads.”

NSLS’s speaker broadcasts are meant to inspire students to overcome obstacles in their life by setting and reaching goals, and encouraging students to seek out higher forms of education.

Harrison shares: “As a leader, if you aren’t asking questions, you’re asking to fail. By attending NSLS, you’re empowering yourself and others. Through [NSLS] events you learn leadership skills you don’t usually get. NSLS makes you talk about your goals and dreams and keeps you encouraged to meet them.”

This month’s speaker Leguizamo, the voice of Sid the sloth from “Ice Age,” will discuss his childhood growing up in rough New York neighborhoods and succeeding in the entertainment world when the odds were against him. NSLS hopes Leguizamo’s story will inspire students to accomplish their dreams and find support from their fellow comrades.

Harrison explains that: “These broadcasts are important because it’s good for people to hear other views and ideas. You want to walk away with ideas about how to apply what they’ve [the speakers] learned to your own world.”

The next broadcast NSLS hosts will feature famous actor and playwright Jesse Eisenberg, and all students are encouraged to attend.
