TWU to host research meeting for local American Chemical Society

Emily White, Reporter

Great minds from TWU and surrounding universities are gathering on campus this weekend. The local chapter of the American Chemical Society is meeting on April 23, and this year it is TWU’s great honor to act as host.

Chair and Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Dr. Richard Sheardy explained that the presentations will be “strictly by graduate students and undergraduates, no faculty.” Faculty will act as judges and the best presentations will receive prizes and awards.

This meeting will feature over 60 university students from schools around the region, including UNT, UT Arlington, UT Dallas, and our very own TWU. Each of the students will present a 10-minute speech about their research on a wide range of chemistry topics.

This event will be held in the Ann Stuart Science Complex, to be observed by the public, faculty, peers and all interested in attending. Attending students can expect great networking opportunities. Students also have the opportunity to see interesting research that has been done by students in their region, and support the students that have worked tirelessly on their projects.

Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Dr. Nasrin Mirsaleh-Kohan expressed, “Our department focuses greatly on student research and we look for opportunities to get our students involved.” This event is free to attend and open to all. Come and see the incredible research your classmates have been gathering.
