Family Weekend Ambassadors welcome loved ones on campus

Family Weekend is a three-day program in the fall semester that celebrates the TWU family. Families including parents, siblings, cousins and anyone you extend the word “family” to, are welcome to explore campus through their students’ eyes.

A select group of students are chosen as ambassadors to welcome these families to campus.

According to Assistant Director of Student Union Programming Lauren Meyer, Family Weekend Ambassadors are a small group of student leaders that help market, plan and implement TWU’s Family Weekend. The role is mainly about welcoming people to campus and helping them feel included and involved when they arrive.

Meyer said: “It is a great opportunity to be a part of a small team of student leaders at TWU.  You get to be involved in meeting and working with student leaders, faculty, staff or administrators that you might not otherwise get the chance to interact with.”

Students who are interested in being a Family Weekend Ambassador must have a cumulative GPA above a 2.0, commit to two training dates and the actual family weekend.  Applications are available on TWU’s website and are due by 5 p.m. on March 5.

Meyer added: “We want a variety of work experience with involvement. Whether this is the first time you’re getting involved in something, no matter if you’re a first year, senior or graduate student, we want you to apply. If this is the 20th thing you have been involved in, we want you to. It’s a great opportunity for students who will not typically interact with each other to connect.”

According to Meyer, they are looking for a variety of students to represent the TWU student body in every capacity at the family weekend events to show what campus life is really like.

A variety of events are planned for the weekend including a movie, athletic events, and many other games and activities typically a fashion show is put on by the fashion department and modeled by the students

Meyer said: “We have activities for small children and activities for adults. We know that the TWU student body is a diverse unit so it’s important to us to offer different activities for different age ranges in different life stages.”

Meyer stated that it is truly almost an open house of campus, where we are showing off all the reasons we love TWU and welcoming family into that experience.
