Knickers for New Life

Every month, girls in Uganda go without sanitary products, causing them to miss about a week of school each month, which ultimately ends up forcing the girl to drop out once hitting puberty. Many schools in Uganda have same sex bathrooms and no hand washing stations, and most girls and boys are not educated in reproductive health.

Knickers for New Life is a non-profit organization that partners with one school at a time in Uganda to raise money to help give girls sanitary products, knickers and help to build new latrines with hand washing stations for both boys and girls. KFNL take donations directly on their website and hosts Big Bead Workshops where one can make jewelry while receiving information about the girls in Uganda and how one can help.

On November 6-8, founder of KFNL Watha Kollmeyer will be hosting a presentation, jewelry sale and Big Bead Workshop at TWU. 100% of net proceeds will be donated to the girls in Uganda. This event will go throughout the day so anyone can come and support KFNL.

Every donation helps keep a girl in school longer and educates students on how the reproductive system works and spreads awareness of STDs. According to KFNL, “Studies have shown that each additional year of education for girls reduces their risk of HIV infection by 7% and delays the age of first pregnancy by a year.”

Kollmeyer shared, “I am really excited to come share with TWU students and staff. I hope anyone interested will attend my presentation, or come create something they love at the Big Bead Workshop, or drop by and get some holiday shopping done. There will be lots of premade KFNL jewelry and H2H soaps for sale. It takes so little to keep a girl in school another year. Come be part of it!”
