The first released full-length album since 2012, Kesha’s “Rainbow” presents a the popstar in a whole new light. Once the princess of partying, Kesha now shows us a more mature, forgiving side of her.
The album came out after her drawn-out legal battle with former producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald, whom Kesha had accused of sexual assault and battery in a 2014 lawsuit that lasted for years. Because of the legal battles, Kesha was unable to release music.
Hopefully, this record will help Kesha and her fans close the chapter on Gottwald.
Bastards
The album begins with a slow, acoustic ballad unlike Kesha’s previous sound. The artist seems to be taking a note from Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus, both who have recently been releasing more americana heavy music. In the chorus, Kesha reminds us to not let the opinions of others affect us. She explains that despite being underestimated her whole life, she is going to thrive. The melody may be different, but the lyrics stay true to who Kesha has always been.

Let ‘Em Talk – Eagles of Death Metal
Continuing with the same “people are going to talk” theme, the second track show that Kesha’s “give a damn” is busted. Accompanied by rock band, Eagles of Death Metal, this upbeat song is a rock-and-roll inspired pop track is the bad girls version of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.” Kesha talks about being yourself and doing what makes you happy, because people are always going to talk. Her carefree attitude is still here, but she makes it clear in the first two songs that this album is not about partying.

Woman
Joining the ranks of great Woman anthems, this song is a power-rocking reminder of how great it is to be a female. This catchy, horn-heavy song has Kesha’s perfected “don’t mess with me” vibe. Woman makes you want to get off your feet and dance it out with your girls.

Praying
This triumphant song shows us the woman Kesha has been the whole time. The emotional story of pain it the ultimate forgiveness song. With this song, Kesha uncovers beautiful vocals unlike anything she has previously exhibited in her mainly, sing-speaking songs.

Learn To Let Go
Continuing the theme of forgiveness, Learning to Let Go is a beautiful reminder that it is not the actions of others that define us, but our reactions to it. This catchy song sends the message that you have to move past your misfortune. While listening to Kesha is weathering her troubles, it is hard not to realize why so many women relate to her struggles.
Kesha leaves behind the party girl talk, but still reminds us that she is not to be messed with. In this album she shares what she has been through, but more importantly, where she is planning on going. I give this album 5 stars out of 5.
