Hispanic Heritage Month brings Cultural Depth on Denton Campus

Beginning on September 16th, TWU’s office of Diversity, Inclusion and Outreach will run various events to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on the Denton Campus. The event is meant to introduce students to the diverse perspectives of Hispanic culture in a safe, but fun and interactive environment. Diversity, Inclusion and Outreach Program Coordinator Kelsey R. Hicks expects a great turn out in interaction from the students along with strong involvement from organizations on campus.

Beginning on September 16th, TWU’s office of Diversity, Inclusion and Outreach will run various events to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on the Denton Campus. The event is meant to introduce students to the diverse perspectives of Hispanic culture in a safe, but fun and interactive environment. “We are looking to have participation from all types of organizations and departments on campus including the Counseling Center, Student Health Services, the Center for Student Development and Fit and Rec,” Hicks stated.

The Hispanic Heritage Month Events are currently as follows:

September 16th– Pachanga at the Underground from 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm

September 23rd– Event TBA

September 30th– Health Fair at the Student Union 11:30 am – 1pm in the Purple Room

October 2nd– “Cocina con Sabor Latino” Location and Time TBA

October 7th– Cooking Event: Name TBA Student Union 11:30 am – 1 pm

October 12th– Poet Carlos Andres Gomez in the Outdoor Pool Area. Rain Site to be held in the MCL Auditorium.

Hicks believes Hispanic Heritage Month will provide residents and commuter students a positive cultural experience that they can partake in between classes.

“I anticipate the TWU campus will respond a open-mind and a curiosity that will spark continued support and even increased participation from constituents across our campus community,” Hicks said.
