Harvest Festival to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s Association

To bring the community together and raise money for Alzheimer’s, The Village at Valley Creek will be hosting their first annual Harvest Festival. The project, which has only been underway since the end of the last week in August, will have food, games, live musicians David Harnois and Clarence Pitts, face painting, a photo booth, bounce house, other local vendors and an auction, all of which were either donated or given at a reduced price to contribute to the cause. Additionally, the event is completely free to the public, except for auction items, and all proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The festival will be hosted at The Village at Valley Creek from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. After mass mailing to the Denton community, Director of Sales and Marketing Joanne Conaway hopes that there will be good enough reception this year to continue hosting the event for years to come. They also plan to bring some of their residents out to enjoy the event, too.

“I really want to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association,” Conaway said. “I would love to be out of business where we didn’t have to have someone live here, but since we aren’t, what can I do to be proactive to help for the cause?”

Welcoming all ages, the Harvest Festival also hopes to see students from local colleges. The invitation says to RSVP, but Conaway said they have an idea of how many people to expect and no longer need one.

If interested, festival attendees are also welcome to come in for a tour of the facility at the event.

“Just because it’s outside, doesn’t mean our house is not open to the public,” Conaway said.
