On a Ghost Tour of Denton with professional storyteller Shelly Tucker, The Lasso learned some interesting historical and paranormal facts about downtown Denton. Looking to have a spooky Halloween night? If you hang around the Denton Square or happen to live downtown, you may experience some spooky paranormal activity considering there are ghost stories for just about every building.

If you have ever wandered around the Denton Square, you may have noticed the historical marker and grave of preacher and lawyer John B. Denton, who played a role in establishing the town of Denton. As you may know, there are apartments available for rent above the shops on the square. Word has it that if you live in these apartments, then you may see the ghost of Denton walking around the courthouse lawn.

If you dine at Hooligans, then be careful walking upstairs. Several employees and customers have claims of being tripped up on the second-to-last step at the top of the stairs. Maybe they had a little too much to drink. Or maybe it was the local ghost, Stewart.

In 1901, an opera house occupied the northeast corner of the square, where Recycled Books Records CDs and luxury apartments are presently located. Sometime during the opera houses 13 years of operation, an actor allegedly killed himself in his dressing room. Customers of Recycled and tenants of the luxury apartments have made claims of paranormal activity over the years. According to Tucker, some tenants have forfeited hefty deposits to get out of their apartments as quickly as possible.
