Halloween Activities in Denton

Halloween is just about here, and Denton residents have a number of choices for fun over the weekend and through the holiday.

Halloween Harvest at the Denia Rec Center 10/27

            This Friday at 6 p.m., residents can head over to the Denia Rec Center at 1001 Parvin St. to take part in carnival games, a hayride, $1 rock climbing and a bounce house for kids. A costume contest will be held as well; participants must register at the door by 7 p.m. Outside in the Denia Park, residents can enjoy a viewing of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” at 8 p.m.

Halloween Carnival at MLK Jr. Rec Center 10/28

            On Saturday, Halloween festivities at the MLK Jr. Rec Center at 1300 Wilson St. will kick-off at 10 a.m. There will be trick-or-treating, carnival games, face painting and a bounce house for kids. There will also be a costume contest that begins at 10:30 a.m. with categories for best baby, best youth and best adult costume. That evening, from 6 to 9 p.m., the rec center will host a haunted host for a $3 cover charge.

Spooky Story Time at Emily Fowler Central Library 10/28

            On Saturday at 11 a.m., parents can take their kids over to Emily Fowler Central Library at 502 Oakland St. for a story time featuring spooky stories. Kids are encouraged to wear costumes and can go on a trick-or-treating parade.

Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival 10/28

            This street carnival starts at 11 a.m. in downtown Denton and runs throughout the evening. For more information, reference our cover feature by The Lasso’s own Alejandro Garcia.

Scare on the Square at the Courthouse on the Square & Denton Haunts and Ghost Tour 10/28

            Starting at 7 p.m., parents can bring their kids early for some family-friendly scary stories. More frightening fare for teens and adults can be enjoyed at 8:30 p.m. in the commissioners Courtroom for a $5 cover.

            Also starting at the Courthouse, Denton Parks and Recreation and the Tejas Storytelling Association have organized a one-hour haunts and ghost walking tour that will start at 7 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. departure. Cost for this event is $10, and it is not recommended for children younger than 10.

Cirque du Horror at Dan’s Silverleaf 10/29

            Located at 103 Industrial St., Dan’s Silveleaf will be hosting “an All Hallow’s Eve vaudeville fantasia in music, dance and theater.” Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Halloween exhibit on display in Blagg-Huey Library through Monday 10/30

            On the first floor of our library, “TWU’s X-Files Go Public: Hauntingly Spooky Tales” and “Celebrating Dia de los Muertos” will be on display along with the “Weeping Blood Art Exhibit,” which depicts “the global reality of violence against girls and women, created by Reanae McNeal.” These exhibits are open to the general public.
