Graduate showcase(s) opportunities

Graduate school is just around the corner for college juniors and seniors. Along with applying for graduate school, comes an avalanche of deadlines, paperwork, questions and confusion. Texas Woman’s University is taking steps to help students with the many challenges associated with choosing and applying for graduate programs. The university will host the graduate showcase from 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., March 3 at the Denton Campus. This showcase will provide students the opportunity to discover all of the programs TWU has to offer, meet experienced faculty, tour graduate facilities and enter a drawing to win a scholarship of $1,000.

According to the Ashton Brown, assistant director of admissions, attending the graduate showcase will give students the chance to introduce themselves to knowledgeable faculty from various programs. “Faculty can share their expectations about the programs, fun things that they are doing–whether it be innovative research or study aboard opportunities,” Brown, said.

This showcase is hosted by the admissions and graduate school departments, Brown said. It has been held since 2014 and, on average, 100-200 students have attended in the past. “The first priority is to invite current TWU students to attend,” Brown said. “We also reach out to a prospect pool of students who are interested in graduate school at TWU as well.”

According to “The Princeton Review,” instead of applying to every grad school in their field, students should focus their attention on a few carefully selected schools based on a careful analysis of available programs and consultations with faculty. The “Princeton Review”  article also noted that students’ career goals impact what they seek in a graduate program, so gathering information is a key part of making this choice.

Brown noted the TWU graduate showcase will also include special information sessions designed to provide specific information about the graduate programs offered through the university. According to the TWU website registration for the showcase is available now and students can check out https://twu.edu/admissions/visit-us/graduate-program-showcase/ to register for a chance to learn and possibly win money.
