Founder’s Day award recipients

Long time TWU supporters recognized and honored

TWU will honor Kay and Bob Goodman and the TWU Former Students Association on April 7 at the Founder’s Award Scholarship Luncheon for their long time service and support to the university.    

Distribution of the Founder’s Award started as an annual tradition in 1998, as a way to recognize individuals and organizations that have supported TWU and encouraged it to flourish and prosper. President and Chancellor Dr. Carine Feyton will deliver the key-note address, and proceeds from the event will contribute to the Chancellor’s Endowed Scholarship fund.

Development Officer of Annual Giving Patrice Frisby explained: “The Founder’s Award is designed to honor long term contributors to TWU. We have wonderful supporters and wonderful people active in supporting our university, and we want to recognize and honor that.”

According to Frisby, Kay and Bob Goodman’s lives have been intertwined with TWU since Kay’s birth. Born in Denton, Kay Goodman comes from a line of TWU alumnae and earned her degree from TWU in 1958. While a student at TWU, Kay Goodman involved herself in student government and many more student organizations. Later in life, she served as the chair of TWU’s Board of Regents. Her husband, a Texas A&M graduate, has worked with his wife to support TWU.    

In a phone interview with The Lasso, Kay Goodman stated on her and her husband’s behalf: “We’re big fans of TWU, and we’ve been working in many small ways over the years to help the university. We’re very proud to be chosen. Our three kids and some of our grandkids will be there, it will make it very special.”

President of the Former Students Association Dr. Patricia Edwards will accept the award on the FSA’s behalf. The FSA has been a part of TWU since its creation in 1905 and has worked to foster relationships between TWU alumni and current students. Throughout the years, the FSA has funded countless scholarships and hosted many events.    

Edwards stated: “We’re of course very proud and honored and very gratified. This is an acknowledgment that we’re doing our job to support the universities mission. As an alum, it’s very nice to know that we’re making a difference on campus.”
