First Friday March Kicks Off

Downtown businesses will keep their doors open for extended hours and special offers March 3 for Denton’s First Friday. Starting at 6 p.m., people can experience different activities, live music and great food around the Square.

The Greater Denton Arts Council art exhibition in the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, 400 E Hickory St., will be kicking off Texas History Month with a marshmallow roast and Tejas Storytellers around the campfire. A new exhibition ‘Composite of the Soul’ will feature artistic traditions of Texas from traditional to contemporary and showcase three Texas artists: Erik Beruvides, Justin Archer and Dan Black. Rebecca Lawton will lecture on early Texas Art and Modernism.

The night will also include a screening of “Bottle Rocket” a film by Texas-born director Wes Anderson. The event will last from 6 – 9:30 p.m.

The Discover Denton Welcome Center, located at 111 W. Hickory, will be open for anyone to ask questions or browse their store, and they will even have beer samples from the Bearded Monk. DIME store, 510 S. Locust St., will host their usual craft night and encourages you to stop by, shop, craft and enjoy a glass of sangria. A Creative Arts Studio, 227 W. Oak St., will host live musicians and offer a special look at a few artists from 7 – 9:30 p.m.

Vintage Bleu located at 221 W. Oak St., will have extended store hours and will have a guest vendor running a pop-up to showcase different items than they normally carry in the store. Debbie Drake, who co-owns the store with her eldest daughter Taera Jones, encouraged everyone to stop by. “We have a really unique selection that changes almost daily,” Drake added. “So, that there is something new all the time.”

Stop by Circa 77 during their extended store hours at 225 W. Oak St., to check out their vintage clothing selection. Mother and Daughter, Janie and Christiana Shoto co-own the store and have been involved in First Friday Denton for five years. “With it being prom season, we are going to focus on that and offer 30% off any prom item,” Janie said. Their sale starts at 10 a.m. so make sure to stop by to check out all the new dresses hanging on their walls.
