Feel Better Fast with TWU CAPS

Everybody says that the years spent in a university will be some of the best years of your life.

Although the years spent here at TWU will be some of the most memorable for many, students also experience a barrage of stress, challenges and general life struggles. For many, it is only a matter of time before deadlines, stress and lack of sleep get the better of them. As bad as it sounds, this is normal, but just because it is normal to stress and worry does not mean that it is okay to remain in a negative mental state.

To help alleviate some of the stress that comes with being a college student, TWU Counseling and Psychological Services will be offering a series of recurring workshops aptly called Feel Better Fast. The workshops, which will be held in the Student Union room 112, will run for eight weeks from Sept. 21 to Oct. 12, and then topics repeat from Nov. 2 to Nov. 30.

TWU CAPS outreach director Dr. Charonda Steele, encourages students to give the workshops a try; when life gets hard, it is necessary to have some skills in place to help cope in times of increased stress. According to the flyer, the Feel Better Fast workshops are “a quick way to get information and learn how you may be better able to deal with stress, lift your mood, enhance your relationships, and care for yourself…the workshop involves topics that everyone has experience with and cannot avoid.”

Aside from attending the Feel Better Fast workshops, Steele also encourages students to take advantage of the TWU counseling services.  CAPS provides group therapy, which focus on a range of common mental and emotional issues with several groups still accepting members. For more information about the specific groups being offered each semester and how to become a member of a group, visit the TWU CAPS website and look for the group therapy section under the “For Students” tab.
