Dr. Youngblood’s next performance along with her fellow faculty members will include musical compositions from various artists.

On Sept. 29 TWU Music Department Chair, co-coordinator and professor Dr. Pamela Youngblood will present the campus with a faculty flute recital. Youngblood recently released a new CD of compositions, titled “Sparkle and Wit: International Treasures for Flute and Piano.” According to a TWU press release, Youngblood will performed alongside staff accompanist Gabriel Bita, adjunct assistant music professor Dr. Danielle Woolery and adjunct music professor Dr. James Hobbs. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Margo Jones Performance Hall.

Youngblood has been a faculty member at TWU since 1992. She earned a full-time position in 1995. She said via email that she performs faculty flute recitals each fall. Youngblood shared: “I hope that the recital will bring a diverse audience from both the university and the community. I love to introduce new repertoire that I have discovered. I love to play the flute, and getting to share that with an audience is incredibly meaningful to me. I love it when students feel
inspired by what they hear and head to the practice rooms!

She elaborated: “I always seek music that is new (or at least new to me), and I have a fantastic program! ‘A Night in New Orleans’ by Eric Ewazen was just published. It is a great piece for flute alone inspired by his visit to New Orleans in 2013 for the National Flute Association convention, an event at which our TWU flute choir performed.”

Youngblood added: “Three of the five composers whose works I will play happen to be women…They are not included because they are female composers, but because the music is so well-written!”

Youngblood’s reach as a musician extends beyond the TWU campus. She said: “I have also performed at the National Flute Association annual convention a number of times, and I am the principal flutist with the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra. I have played flute concertos with the orchestra several times.”
